It's being touted as "the world's most versatile LED light," unlike traditional lighting set-ups that might be heavier, more cumbersome, and vulnerable to weather conditions.

According to its development team, Lumin8 is so durable, you can run it over with your car or keep it underwater for up to 30 minutes. At the same time, it's light enough to mount to a drone or carry with you while spelunking.

The light is 22 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter. It runs on a lithium-ion battery, which you can recharge via a USB. It should take two to three hours to achieve a full charge.

This might be a good option for filmmakers who need quick and dirty setups while in the field, and could be great for content creators who might be shooting videos on the fly. But the fact that the light is easy to mount could make it valuable on traditional sets, too. It'll be interesting to see Lumin8 get some real use once it's released.

Currently in its prototype phase, the team behind Lumin8 is Kickstarting the project to fund their initial order. A pledge of $179 will get you one Lumin8 light, with expected delivery in November 2019.

The Kickstarter campaign ends on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 12:54 p.m.
