If you know me, you know I love a good easter egg in a movie. And Marty Supreme is full of them, from random internet celebs who got lines, to mem Knicks fans who got to play supporting characters.

And now, we have one more to add to the list: Robert Pattinson.

According to a recent report from Variety, the film features a "secret role" played by the A-list actor. While Timothée Chalamet leads the charge as the motor-mouthed ping-pong hustler Marty Mauser, Pattinson’s inclusion brings a full-circle moment for fans of the Safdie cinematic universe.

Here is everything you need to know about the role, the film, and why this collaboration is the ultimate "Easter egg" for cinephiles.

Let's dive in.

The Safdie-Pattinson Reunion

If you have not seen the Safdie movie, Good Time, stop reading and go do it. It's one of the most thrilling and action-packed films of the century.

Pattinson’s frantic, bleach-blonde performance as Connie Nikas proved he was one of the most daring actors of his generation, and established the Safdies as the kings of New York anxiety-cinema.

I have been dying for them to work together again, and it seems like they kind of did.

What is the "Secret Role"?

It turns out Josh Safdie called on Robert Pattinson to play a secret role in Marty Supreme. And it's not one you even see on screen.

In an interview at London’s BFI Southbank, the director said Pattinson had a voice role in the movie. “No one knows this, but that voice — the commentator, the umpire — is Pattinson,” Safdie said. “It’s like a little easter egg. Nobody knows about that. … He came and watched some stuff, and I was like, I don’t know any British people. So he’s the umpire.”

So if you listen closely, Pattinson can be heard as the ping pong match announcer during the British Open semifinals scene. It's in the first act of the movie, and when Chalamet’s Marty Mauser faces off against Hungarian champion Bela Kletzki (Géza Röhrig).

I will have to keep my ears open in the rewatch.

Summing It All Up

Josh Safdie has always been a filmmaker who rewards his most attentive viewers and their heart rates. By sneaking Robert Pattinson into the fabric of Marty Supreme, he's rewarding the rewatch and easter egg nerds like myself.

I can't wait to go back to listen to the voice in this one, and I can't wait for whatever Safdie and Pattinson are cooking up next.
