Here’s The First Look at Runway’s New Gen-4.5 Video Model That You Didn’t Ask For
Runway has introduced its new frontier for video generation as it previews the capabilities of its Gen-4.5 video model for everyone who hasn’t asked to see it.

As we’ve mentioned many times in the past, the future of AI’s involvement in the filmmaking industry is splitting into two distinctly different camps. In one area, we have AI tools that speed up workflows and make the lives of filmmakers and video creatives easier.
In the other area, we have generative AI video models, which seem to be trying to replace the art of filmmaking. For some, there is no difference between the two. But for others, it can be a helpful distinction.
Runway has just shared a preview of the company’s newest Gen-4.5 video model, which is squarely in the second camp and offers a glimpse at how much (or, depending on how you look at it, how little) it has advanced since its last iteration.

According to Runway, its new Gen-4.5 video model is the world's top-rated video model as it offers some of the top levels of visual fidelity and creative controls for AI filmmakers. Its goal, as you might expect, is to produce cinematic and highly realistic outputs while providing limitless creative freedom and precise control over every aspect of generation.
In the two years since Runway released its first Gen-1 AI video model, the model has increased in many ways. However, if we’re going off of naked eye looks and vibes, it does kind of appear like things are slowing down in terms of “blown away” factors.
Still, Runway shows no signs of slowing down its development cycles as the company continues its aim to push the frontier of video generation even further. Gen-4.5 maintains the speeds and efficiencies of the previous Gen-4 model, while setting new standards for dynamic, controllable action generation, temporal consistency, and more precise controllability across diverse generational models.
