When it comes to recording usable audio, lavalier microphones are a great solution. Sennheiser has introduced the XS Lav mic that's available in three versions, either with a 3.5mm TRRS connector, a USB-C connector, or in kit form that includes a Manfrotto PIXI Mini tripod and Sennheiser Smartphone Clamp.

The XS Lav is an omnidirectional clip-on mic that features a 6.6' (2m) cable that can connect directly to several different devices.

The 3.5mm TRRS version makes it easy to connect the lav to several smartphones or tablets with a 3.5mm connector. Because of the TRRS capability, the XS Lav can also be used with applications like Skype or Zoom. All you need to do is select the Sennheiser XS Lav in the menu settings of the program.

If you own a newer Apple device that only has a lightning port, the USB-C version is actually the better option. Not only can it be used on the newer iPads, but USB-C can be easily adapted to Apple's lightning connector with a simple adapter. Amazon has one for $8

All three versions come with a microphone clip, foam windshield, and a drawstring storage pouch. The XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit also comes with a Sennheiser Smartphone Clamp and Manfrotto PIXI Mini tripod.

The XS Lav Mobile with the 3.5mm TRRS plug is priced at $49, the XS Lav USB-C is $59, and the XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit is $99.

No word on if Sennheiser will be offering the TRRS version as a kit.
