Sigma Unveils First Lens for Canon RF Mount with Its New 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN
Here are the full pricing and launch schedule details for Sigma’s first foray into Canon RF Mount lenses.
Fresh on the heels of announcing their world’s first F1.8 zoom lens for full-frame cameras with the 25-45mm F1.8 (which we reviewed here), Sigma is back with another major announcement. This time Sigma is breaking ground in a new direction as this new 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Lens will be the brand’s first lens to be released for Canon RF Mount.
Offering a 28.8-80mm full-frame equivalent focal range for Canon APS-C format mirrorless cameras, this should be another exciting option for Canon RF shooters for both photo and video purposes. Let’s take a look at this new Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Lens.
Introducing the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Lens
Designed to be ideal for a wide range of photo and video applications including landscapes, portraits, street photography, architecture, and events, the 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens from Sigma is a small, light, and bright standard zoom for crop-sensor mirrorless cameras.
Looking at its Canon RF-mount option specifically though, this new lens should provide a versatile full-frame equivalent zoom range of 29-80 and a wide constant aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range. Its lens design also includes three high-precision glass-molded aspherical elements coupled with a special low-dispersion element.
Sigma reports that the lens’ autofocus is exceptionally fast and quiet thanks to the lens's stepping motor, which can be particularly useful when shooting video or fast-moving subjects such as children and animals.
The lens is an ultimate workhorse with features like a minimum focusing distance of just 4.8", enabling it to be used for macro-style close-up photography, and the lens is also outfitted with a rounded seven-blade diaphragm for a pleasing bokeh quality.
