Filmmaking grants are incredibly useful when it comes to seeing your vision come to life. Now two prestigious companies want to help even the playing field for you and get you into the game.

Thanks to the success of movies like Beast Beast at Sundance, independent production studio Vanishing Angle (Beast Beast, Thunder RoadGreener Grass) and post-production house DryDock (The Werewolf, The Beta Test) are looking to support more of those storytellers whose shorts can be further developed into strong feature narrative films.

They have teamed up to offer a grant worth $10,000 in post-production services to two short films per year. The services include color correction, DCP creation, film festival strategy sessions, marketing and release planning, and the use of their screening room. Vanishing Angle and DryDock seek to support independent filmmakers as they navigate the often financially challenging phase of post-production.

Benjamin Weissner, VP of Sales & Acquisitions for Vanishing Angle, says, "We treat short films as so much more important than just a calling card. Short films instigated key creative growth for many of our directors, creating new worlds and characters that they fell in love with and built from for future projects. Several of Vanishing Angle’s recent features started as award-winning shorts. None of those films were planned when the shorts were created. These features were able to grow organically out of the short film’s journey, as the directors learned what audiences loved about their characters and work."

What do you need to make the cut?

Filmmakers must submit a short film that is in the post-production process. It can be in any form from rough cut to picture lock. Any short film under 20 minutes is eligible, but we are especially interested in films with a strong sense of vision and craft. The grant will be awarded to a winning filmmaker every summer and winter.
