Aputure's Lightstorm LEDs Are Small but Powerful Thanks to Their Honeycomb Design

Aputure came out with some pretty intuitive new products at NAB, namely their VS-5 monitor and Lightstorm LED lights, which offer high light output with smaller panels, as well as Touch to Plate LEDs.

VS-5 Monitor

  • 1280x800 display (takes up to 4K)
  • Waveform, color parades, vectorscope
  • SDI in/out, HDMI in/out
  • Power: DC/Sony lithium ion batteries for 4 - 5 hours of battery life (x2 batteries)
  • Price: about $600

Lightstorm LED Lights

  • CRI95+
  • Made of aluminium
  • Dense honeycomb LED pattern allows for same light output with smaller sized panels
  • More accessible control modules
  • Touch to Plate allows LEDs to shoot out a 120-degree angle of light
  • Price: $600 - $500

No word yet on when these products will be available, but we'll keep you posted.

Not sure on the monitor, but the lights are interesting. Would be nice to have temperature control on there. Also an app the could control multiple lights makes more sense than a remote,

Aputure is making good some great products at a very competitive price these days. The new Lightstorm LED looks very nice. They even have a "Speedbooster" like focal reducer coming out soon that is also going to priced in the affordable range. http://eriknaso.com/2015/04/19/aputure-puts-speedbooster-like-focal-redu...

The Aputure's representative in this video seemed enthused about their products and probably a filmmaker himself. I will definitely try our both the Monitor and LED. The battery option and the control panel being separate is genius it will not be so top heavy. Perfect for shooting outdoors.
