Meet the Makers of Google Street View & Learn About Their Immersive Video Platform

So, the people behind Google Street View -- yeah, that's Immersive Media. They are the forerunners of 360-degree capture, which is why it was pretty exciting to stop by their booth at NAB and talk about the services they provide, as well as what the future of virtual reality looks like.

And here's the full 3D interactive version of the interview. Feel free to drag the screen wherever and look around!

Even though virtual reality and 360-degree filmmaking are still in their infancy (read: not widely used), it seems as though Immersive Media is right there on the cusp. They create the camera systems, recorders, and the stitching software to provide clients with an end-to-end service that encompasses pretty much everything they'll need to produce 360-degree video.

Head on over to their website to check out what Immersive Media is all about.

I really doubt that this will become some sort of standard for filmmaking, basically because of the way sets are built, and that it'll take away director's control over the audience. I see this more for music videos and as a gimmick for some movies, not as a mainstream practice.

But what if you combine this technology with realtime CGI created by ILM. You can also create various story structures that happen in different places and choose which one you will follow. It is an inter dynamic film experience. It´s next level!

This is a great interview: it is always great to learn from Ryan Whitehead .... many thanks for recording and sharing!
(by the way, you are making the common mistake of referring to 360 as 3D on the introduction to the interactive versión ;)
