NewFilmmakers Los Angeles is looking to promote both the city and independent filmmakers with its latest contest On Location: The Los Angeles Video Project. As such, it's asking for very short films that “creatively highlight Los Angeles to the world through unique storytelling.”

You don’t need to live in LA to participate, although the contest is only open to US citizens and current legal resident aliens of the US over the age of 18. You do, however, need to tell a story that positively portrays the City of Angels with a documentary, narrative, commercial, or music video that falls into one of two categories: 2-5 minutes, or under 2 minutes.

The group has an impressive array of partners, and in addition to a red carpet awards event and social media coverage, the very useful grand prize package includes items that will greatly assist in making your next film:

  • $40,000 production prize package from Alternative Camera Rentals
  • $500 cash from NewFilmmakers LA
  • (1) Film permit from FilmLA valued at $625
  • (1) package of 3 festival music licenses for tracks in your next film and a 30 minute consultation with a Billboard-award-winning music supervisor valued at $1500 from Seven Seas Music
  • (1) Prelit green screen sound stage package valued at $1200 from Hollywood Casting and Film
  • (1) MovieMagic Scheduling and Budgeting software bundle valued at $1000

Submissions are due on August 26. See the rest of the prize packages and full guidelines here, and then go ahead and submit your film. Good luck!
