Teradek, the market leader in the wireless video space, has just released the new Bolt 10K receiver, allowing wireless video transmission of up to 10,000 feet (practically 2 miles long).

While it's rare for this level of range to be needed on a set, it does occur from time-to-time—whether due to a base camp that has to be far removed from an actual set or a drone working at a far distance–and there isn't another high-quality broadcast tool with this kind of range.

The Bolt 10K is a receiver designed to work with the Bolt 3000 transmitter. By building the receiver into an antenna unit, this new Bolt ups the receiver range to a distance that's truly impressive. The unit also has either HDMI or SDI outputs, making it great for filmmakers who wish to build an HDMI monitor base station at a far distance while providing SDI feed to the DIT station.

Like the rest of the newer units, the 10K receiver has full LUT support, allowing for the ability to dial in a "look" at the receiver. This allows for a preview of what a final grade might look like even when capturing a log or other flat image.

The 10K is also battery-powered (with plates available for either gold or V-Mount batteries), making it great for field shoots where generators and wall power might not be available.

In addition, Teradek has also introduced the new Bolt Manager, a hardware device that allows for the programming of multiple Bolt units at once.

While this move is clearly targeted toward rental houses, it will also be useful in the field when dealing with a multi-camera show (and the competing frequencies and settings that come along with it). Anything that can speed up the rolling out of bulk settings to a large number of devices will be appreciated by users.

The Bolt Manager is available for $990, while the Bolt 10K is available for $6,990 from Teradek.
