While early reviews of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K have been solid (check out how it stacks up with other similar mirrorless cameras in its price range here), there have been enough issues where owners and renters are looking for some extra support to maximize their video workflow with the camera.

In addition to some external power options (here’s a great option) and a pretty nifty modular cage buildout (check it out here) there have been those looking for additional recording options outside of the BMPCC 4K’s built-in card slot options.

Let’s look at one attachable SSD option that just might be your best bet for boosting your BMPCC 4K’s recording capabilities. (And if you haven't already, check out or in-depth hands-on review of the BMPCC 4K here!)

The Wise Advanced SSD for the BMPCC 4K

In the video above by Of Two Lands on Youtube, the Wise Advanced Portable SSD is showcased and suggested to be one of the best portable SSD options for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. If you’re looking to record 4K DCI Raw lossless (at up to 30fps) on your BMPCC 4K for extended periods of time, attaching this slim compact flash storage device is an easy and lightweight solution.

The Wise Advanced SSD connects through the BMPCC 4K’s USB-C port and includes an attachable shoe mount to lock in on top of the camera. While this takes away other attachable options, it’s a very lightweight and simple solution for maximizing recording.

You can expect write-speeds of 520 MB/s and read speeds of 550 MB/s with each of the Wise Advanced SSD options which include 256GB, 512GB and 1TB offerings. Here are the full stats from the Wise Advanced SSD website:

  • Sizes: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB

  • Read-Speed: 550 MB/s

  • Write-Speed: 520 MB/s
