On the heels of Atomos announcing the Ninja V Pro Kit, the company has released the supported firmware that allows you to take advantage of RAW recording over SDI via the AtomX SDI Expansion Module. Even if you're not a module owner, AtomOS firmware 10.61 is worth the update, as it benefits existing Ninja V users with new features. Let's take a look.

According to Atomos, a new timelapse feature has been added where users can record a timelapse sequence where all frames are captured into a single video file. The feature works with ProRes, DNx, and ProRes RAW codecs over HDMI and SDI. The feature allows you to capture a customizable set of sequences by changing:

  • The number of frames/seconds captured
  • Captured every frames/seconds/minutes/hours
  • For the duration specified in frames/seconds/minutes/hours

Atomos has also improved signal locking over HDMI and SDI inputs on Z CAM cameras as well as the Canon 1DX III on 4K 60/50p video. Users will also see an improvement in the stability of input/output locking for 12G-SDI when pairing the Ninja V with the module.

If you're a Leica SL2S shooter, there is now support for L-Log gamma in BT.2020. Atomos says other Leica camera models will see the same update in a future release. For those with an AtomX SDI module, you'll be able to cross convert between HDMI and SDI sources allowing you to easily pair the setup with wireless video transmitters that require less resolution.
