Blackmagic Design ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP Switcher
Big news for live production crews this year at NAB. Blackmagic Design really pulled out all the stops, particularly for live production, with new 100G cameras and a ton of new products to support live production crews.
Of note, there are a couple of new additions to the Constellation line, as well as a new ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP Switcher from Blackmagic Design that is a 2 RU live broadcast rackmount switcher that features 32 native SMPTE 2110 IP video inputs and 28 outputs (including multiview) via 100G fiber Ethernet ports.
Let’s check it out.
Blackmagic Design ATEM 4 M/E Constellation IP Switchers
Available in two models, these new switchers are set to keep many of the same features as the existing ATEM Constellation SDI-based switchers, so that they’ll be familiar and still usable from the jump, but will help allow for a more seamless transition between SMPTE-2110 and SDI-based switchers if you’re someone who might have both in your facility.
"ATEM Constellation switchers are powerful and offer advanced features, but we have customers who are doing SMPTE-2110 workflows, and need a native 2110 IP switcher rather than SDI. Rather than just adding a lot of 10G Ethernet connections, we realized we needed a whole new design. Not only does front to back cooling mean they are quiet, but using bi-directional 100G Ethernet means each port can handle 8 video inputs and outputs, so 4 cables replaces 60 separate BNC cables on an SDI switcher, it’s amazing! We can’t wait to see this switcher in action at large live broadcasts." - Grant Petty, CEO Blackmagic Design.
Ideally designed for high-end broadcast and live production crews, this new design features front-to-back cooling, extensive redundancy, support for SMPTE-2022-7 on all 100G video ports, redundant PTP clock connections, 2 x 10G Ethernet for control ports, and redundant AC power supplies.
