The Syrp Genie Micro is a remote for mirrorless and DSLR cameras that allows you to control the ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. It also lets you start and stop the video, take photos, and control the timelapse function.

Syrp is behind the Genie Mini II, a motion-control device that we previously reviewed and enjoyed. The Genie Micro is their all-in-one smart remote that slides right into the hot shoe of the camera. Users control camera settings through an app. Settings can be controlled via Bluetooth or WiFi up to 32 feet (10 meters) away, which is handy when you can't operate the camera in the same room, or when you don't want to cause shake.

To control the camera, it requires a USB-C cable to be connected from the Genie Micro to your camera. The package comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable, and if your camera doesn't support USB-C, Syrp provides a USB-C to USB-A adapter. The USB-C port on the Genie Micro also acts as the charging port, which on a full battery provides about seven hours of operation. A full recharge takes about two and a half hours. For standard triggering, an additional shutter link cable is required.

The Syrp app that controls the camera is free to download for iOS and Google Play and easy to use. While connected to the Genie Micro through the app, you can remotely change exposure settings, apply HDR mode, and holy grail timelapses. Additionally, if you are shooting with multiple cameras, you can remotely control any connected Genie Micro via the app.

The device itself is compact, easily fitting in the palm of your hand. In terms of compatibility, the Genie Micro covers different Canon and Nikon models, including the R5, EOS R, 5D MK IV, Z7, and Z5. The company is expected to add more to the list including Sony cameras.

If the camera you own doesn't come with an app to control settings remotely, the Genie Micro is a nice alternative. It's available now for $159.
