Fujifilm has released the Fujinon GF 80mm F1.7 R WR lens, which is compatible with its GFX camera systems including the GFX100 and new GFX100S.

The fast 80mm F1.7 prime features a 9 blade aperture design that's capable of producing a nice rounded bokeh. Optically, it has 12 elements in 9 groups including one aspherical element and two Super ED elements to minimize aberrations. Shooting wide open, users should experience edge-to-edge sharpness.

When paired with a GFX camera, the 80mm F1.7 offers a 37.7° field of view and an approximately 27" (0.7m) minimum focusing distance. On a full-frame camera, the lens is a 63mm equivalent.

As you'd expect from Fujifilm, the lens is designed with internal seals for dust and weather resistance and can operate in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). Additional fluorine coatings on the front element provide the added benefit of being water, dust, and dirt repellent.

The lens is only just 3.9 inches (99.2 mm) long and weighs approximately 1.75 lbs (795g), making it light enough for gimbal use and easy enough to carry around.

The GF 80mm F1.7 R WR is available for $2,299 USD and is available for pre-order now. The expected shipping date is March.
