As House of the Dragon began shooting on April 26, we wanted to recap everything we know about the upcoming HBO reentry into Game of Thrones and inform you about what's yet to come. The show debuts in 2022, but let's get excited about it now.

House of the Dragon Plot details 

The show is set a few hundred years prior to the events we saw unfold in Game of Thrones. The story is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

It's the story of the Targaryen civil war, known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

The cast includes Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, and Fabien Frankel.

Who Is on the Creative Team of House of the Dragon

The showrunners will be Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal. They will also serve as executive producers alongside Martin and Vince Gerardis. Martin and Condal co-created the series. Sara Lee Hess will also serve as writer and executive producer. Ron Schmidt will also executive produce.

Miguel Sapochnik will direct the pilot as well as additional episodes. Sapochnik directed six Game of Thrones episodes and won Emmy and DGA honors for “Battle of the Bastards.” He was nominated for another Emmy in 2019 for directing “The Long Night.”

Rounding out the directors will be Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel, and Greg Yaitanes, who is directing and co-executive producing.

Game of Thrones and Westworld composer Ramin Djawadi will score the series.
