Optically, the Velvet 28 is comprised of 8 multi-coated glass elements in 7 groups with a 12-blade aperture design. At its widest, the aperture is F2.5 and it closes down to F22. However, there is a bonus 1/3 stop of light indicated by a + sign on the aperture ring that goes beyond F2.5. So if you need to squeeze in some extra light, F2.2 is available. The lens has a minimum focus distance of 2 inches and very capable 1:2 macro functionality. The lens has an all-metal design and a 67mm front thread to add standard filters.

Lensbaby says the Velvet 28 produces images that are sharp in detail beneath a layer of radiant glow. The effects is said to make flat light interesting and harsh light more pleasing. The 28mm joins the Velvet 56mm F1.6 and Velvet 85mm F1.8, which all add an ethereal mood to scenes.

The Velvet28 is available in Canon EF/RF, Nikon F/Z, Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Micro Four Thirds. It's priced at $549.95 USD. Find out more on the Lensbaby product page
