Launching on July 9th, Panasonic's firmware updates will provide significant improvements to the Lumix DC-S1 and S1R and incremental improvements to micro 4/3 cameras like the GH5 and GH5S. The full frame updates focus primarily on image stabilization and improved video enhancements.

Let's take a look at what those enhancements are:


DC-S1 and S1R

  • Correction performance of the in-body image stabilization (using non-IS lenses) has been improved from a maximum of 5.5 stops to a maximum of 6.0 stops.
  • Performance with Dual IS-compatible lenses has been improved from 6.0 stops to 6.5 stops.
  • Tracking performance for live view display during video recording has been improved.
  • Live view display using autofocusing is now "easier to see."
  • improved "operational stability" when using XQD memory cards.
  • Addition of new "AF-ON: Near Shift" and "AF-ON: Far Shift" functions, which will give users the ability to bias AF to close or far objects.

An "Activate" function has been added to the S1 only, which enables the use of extended functions using the optional paid DMW-SFU2 video feature update. The following functions will be added by activating the Upgrade Software Key:

Micro Four Third Cameras

These cameras are affected by the new Firmware Version 1.3 update:

  • GH5
  • GH5S
  • G9
  • G90/G91/G95
  • G80/G81/G85
  • GX9

Update Features

  • Improved compatibility with the Panasonic LEICA DG VARIO-SUMMILUX 10-25mm / F1.7 ASPH. (H-X1025) digital lens (all listed cameras).
    • Smooth aperture control is available during video recording.
    • "Aperture Ring Increment" function has been added with which users can choose the control method of the aperture ring from [SMOOTH] or [1/3EV] in photo shooting.
  • Improved compatibility with the Panasonic Remote Shutter DMW-RS2 (all listed cameras except the GX9).
    • The video REC switch on the Remote Shutter can be disabled in the camera’s custom menu.
