We’re well into summer at this point, and many filmmakers and videographers might be feeling the heat not just from trying to knock out projects in high temperatures, but also from their gear.

We’ve all been there and know what a hot sunny day can do to your cameras and other gear, but if you want to be ready to handle the heat—so to speak—you’ll likely need some other gear to help keep things from overheating.

Tilta has introduced a new Universal Cooling System that aims to be the ultimate accessory for creators who want to beat the heat and shoot longer without overheating, limiting productive days out in the sun. Here’s what you need to know.

Designed around a pretty clever thermoelectric cooling technology, Tilta’s new Universal Cooling System model pairs a high-efficiency thermoelectric plate with an aluminum alloy heatsink fin. The result is a near-silent fan that uses high-thermal-conductivity silicone to pull heat away from your camera quickly.

The system features three adjustable modes that can let the shooter beat the heat with the following options.

  • Level 1 (Quiet Mode) runs at approximately 41°F (5°C), with fan noise as low as 30dB, ideal for on-set audio recording.
  • Level 2 (Ice-Cool Mode) delivers maximum cooling down to 32°F (0°C) when you need it most.
  • Auto Mode automatically adjusts cooling intensity to maintain a stable 68°F ± 5.5°F (20°C ± 3°C) range, reducing the need for frequent manual adjustments so you can stay focused on the shot.

The cooling system also features a built-in TFT color display that shows real-time temperature and the current operating mode, so shooters can quickly decide which mode to use and how to handle the heat as they feel best.
