OM SYSTEM Brings Back the PEN With a Relaunch of This Classic Digital Camera
OM SYSTEM has introduced, or re-introduced, the world to its PEN, an MFT mirrorless camera with photographic flair and capable video features.

OM SYSTEM PEN Camera
The PEN is back, or—at least—a redesigned version of the classic film camera. OM SYSTEM has announced that a new digital PEN model is officially on the way.
Set to feature a compact body, yet packed with a capable high-res Micro Four Thirds sensor, this update to the PEN should offer quick, capable autofocus and expected photographic flair, with unique art filters and plenty of helpful features.
It will also shoot video, though perhaps not as its main function; still, its video specs aren’t bad, with 4K at 24fps, slow-mo at 120p, and in-camera 24-bit audio. Let’s check it out.
The OM SYSTEM PEN is Back
What’s unique about the PEN and its camera history is that after its original film run, the first digital PEN camera was released in 2009. This new MFT mirrorless option redesigns both versions and brings the legacy into the modern mirrorless workflow.
The goal of the camera appears to be as lightweight and easy as possible, as the camera is quite compact and looks to be targeted towards being a nice travel camera, ideally for pictures, but also for hybrid shooting needs.
The OM SYSTEM PEN will feature some decent specs for video too, with its face/eye detection autofocus with human and animal recognition looking solid and sharp, and the camera set to feature your usual mix of necessary video shooting features like focus peaking and magnification.
Price and Availability
Still, this isn’t meant to be a major challenger for higher-end video, and its focus is pretty much squarely on travel photography and casual content. Still, it’s a sleek, cool-looking retro camera from a solid brand that, if you like the style, could be worth investing in as a carry-around option.
