The Zeiss Loxia lenses are designed for mirrorless cameras in the Sony Alpha series and feature full frame coverage in a small footprint. The Loxia f/2.4 25mm is the latest addition, making it the fifth alongside 21, 35, 50 and 85mm focal lengths. Because of its E-mount, Sony FS7/FS5 users can benefit from its optical quality or any sensor up to the 35mm format (36 x 24mm).

The optics (10 lens elements in eight groups) feature the Zeiss Distagon design for end-to-end sharpness across the entire image field of the sensor. It includes two anomalous partial dispersion elements and a single aspherical lens to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations. T* anti-reflective coating has been added to all the elements to minimize ghosting and unwanted lens flare.

Loxia lenses have manual focus and iris rings where the aperture can be de-clicked when needed. The 25mm carries a 90° focus throw. Engraving in meters and feet for focus and depth of focus scales add to the seamless operation. The electronic interface of the lens will transfer both lens data and focus moments to the Sony camera and will activate the focus peaking or zoom function.

Constructed in a durable metal barrel with grippy focus and aperture rings made of metal, Loxia lenses will be able to withstand the bumps and bruises from gimbals and Steadicams. A weather-resistant sealing ring on the bayonet also protects the interface between the camera and the lens.

The Loxia f/2.4 25mm has a price tag of $1,299 US and includes the lens hood. Zeiss is also expected to offer special pricing for the entire set.
