Zhong Yi Optics has launched a new Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 lens for L-mount cameras. This is reported to be the “world’s first” f/0.95 lens for L-mount cameras and is specifically designed for full-frame mirrorless camera systems.

This is exciting news for any owners of the Sigma FP, Panasonic S1 and S1H, or the Leica SL or SL2, as this new Mitakon Speedmaster line should be perfect for these L-mount camera systems.

Let’s take a look at this new fast and smooth 50mm and what it might mean for Sigma and Panasonic filmmakers and video professionals alike.

Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens

This new 50mm should represent some of the best—and most extreme—control over depth of field that any L-mount camera user is currently going to find on the market. It promises to be one of the fastest lenses at its price point and should give you some soft and rich bokeh for those shallow depth of field looks.

With its 11 elements in 8 groups optics formula, it should also provide some beautiful image quality and definition. Good colors and low dispersion means the least amount of color fringing and chromatic aberrations.

It also should do quite well on night shoots with its ultra-wide aperture and should handle any number of other low-light situations that you might throw it on for.
