ARRI’s New ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme is Here to Bring High Frame Rate to Your Live Productions
ARRI has introduced its new ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme, a camera set to deliver up to 8x high frame rate output for live productions using traditional SDI workflows.

ARRI ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme
While everyone loves a new ARRI camera announcement, this one is most likely to appeal to those who work in live production workflows. Still, a new ARRI camera is a new ARRI camera, and we’re excited to share the news of the new ALEXA 35 Xtreme.
The latest addition to ARRI’s multicam system, this new ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme is an update to the ALEXA 35 Live, which we’ve covered before, and is set to bring high frame rate output of up to 8x to live productions using traditional SDI workflows.
This new camera, when coupled with ARRI’s Live Production System LPS-1, is set to enable a new era of live entertainment coverage, not just with higher ARRI image quality, but also with new slow-motion and enhanced creative options. Here’s what you need to know
ARRI ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme
While the “Xtreme” name makes it sound like a 90s skateboard rebrand, this new expansion to ARRI’s Multicam System should be quite appealing to those who work in live events and productions, as HFR output via SDI has long been a top request for many.
What’s cool about this new ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme model is that it is set to include a new High Frame Rate SDI license, which will be pre-installed along with the existing High Speed License for ALEXA 35. When these new output modes are combined with the ARRI LPS-1 Fiber Camera Adapter and Fiber Base Station, the camera can output HFR at up to 8x in HD or 2x in UHD.
The other big news here is the new slow-motion capabilities unlocked: the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme will capture frame rates up to 330 FPS while still using the camera’s full dynamic range of 17 stops.

A Big Day for Broadcasters
Again, this isn’t major news for traditional digital filmmakers hoping for another high-end cinema camera for their shorts and features, but for those working in broadcast and live productions, the ARRI Multicam System takes a major step forward.
For those looking for dynamic coverage capabilities, whether for events or sports broadcasts, the camera should be quite capable, with its wide dynamic range designed to capture high-contrast environments such as winter sports like never before.
Plus, since a separate high-speed camera is no longer required, a crew’s HFR content should now match the ARRI look of their regular feed, ensuring a consistent visual style across both live coverage and highlight reels.
