Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K Adds New Autofocus Features and Upgrades
A look at everything new coming to the Blackmagic Cinema 6K camera with this new Blackmagic Camera 9.5 update.

Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K
While the new PYXIS 12K and DaVinci Resolve 20 might be the biggest news to come from the Blackmagic Design booth at NAB this year, there are some smaller—yet still significant—updates to share with any interested Blackmagic shooters.
The Blackmagic Cinema 6K camera, the company’s full-frame, high-end 6K video camera that features a 24 x 35mm sensor and 13-stops of dynamic range, is getting a notable firmware update that will add new autofocus control to the camera.
The Blackmagic Cinema 6K will also get added features for global cloud workflows with DaVinci Resolve projects, as well as USB webcam support and other new improvements. Let’s look at what you need to know about this Blackmagic Camera 9.5 update.
Blackmagic Camera 9.5 Update
The big news here is that the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K will now feature some impressive autofocus capabilities that will include active object tracking and facial recognition. These technologies will work exactly as you might expect as helpful features for keeping your subjects or objects in focus while you record video.
The facial recognition AF in particular should be quite capable as it will be able to recognize multiple faces, and both can lock on certain areas as needed. Blackmagic Design reports that these new technologies are using some new AI processing that should help provide this AF to the L-mount version of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K.
