Blackmagic Improves Cinema Camera 6K Reliability With Update 8.3.2
Here’s why you should download the latest Blackmagic camera update for the Cinema Camera 6K right away.
Since making their triumphant return to full-frame with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, the initial fanfare from loyal Blackmagic fans has started to simmer down just enough for users to start requesting some minor, but important, updates from the camera manufacturing and non-linear editing company.
As is the case with most new cameras these days, this new camera from Blackmagic was quick to get a new firmware update which should fix any small issues or tweaks. Most notably this new firmware update for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K (as known as the BMCC 6K) is set to improve overall reliability, as well as add new support for Blackmagic RAW.
Let’s take a look at this new Blackmagic Camera 8.3.2 update and check out how and why you should probably download it right away.
Blackmagic Camera 8.3.2
As mentioned above, it seems like it’s certainly standard practice these days for most camera manufacturers to push out an exciting new camera, and then follow up quickly with a firmware update to correct any minor (or sometimes major) issues. Luckily this update for the BMCC 6K isn’t solving any severe malfunctions or anything. (Don’t worry, no one is reporting that the BMCC 6K is overheating or anything.)
Still, there can be small issues lost or undiscovered prior to launch that are worth fixing right away. So hats off to Blackmagic for recognizing any concerns and answering them quickly. From what we can tell, these updates aren’t from any single specific issue, but rather broad reliability updates to improve the camera experience overall.
It’s also worth noting that this new update also includes Blackmagic RAW 3.4 which sees the addition of support for the BCC 6K while working with FUJIFILM GFX100 II Blackmagic RAW clips recorded externally. A nice improvement for anyone looking to combine the powers of these two excellent cameras.
How to Update
Blackmagic reports that this camera 8.3.2 update “improves the reliability of the image data during recording” for the BMCC 6K. They don’t include too many details, but it sounds like this is a highly helpful update that should simply ensure that your BMCC 6K will operate as reliably as possible moving forward.
Blackmagic recommends users download and update their cameras with this update immediately. Which you can do on Blackmagic Design’s website.
