A look at the new MID49 Power Distribution box DB-9 for the Blackmagic PYXIS cinema camera.

MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-9
If you’re looking to unlock intelligent power distribution to your Blackmagic PYXIS camera to better monitor and allocate your cinema camera workflows, then we have some good news for you. The company MID49 is adding a new Power Distribution option to the market specifically for the Blackmagic PYXIS with a new Power Distribution DB-9 Box.
Designed to attach directly to the camera body itself using two rear 1/4-20 threaded holes, this intelligent power distribution option could be a worthy investment to monitor camera power and dictate remaining power budgets.
Let's look at the MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-9 for the Blackmagic PYXIS, which is set to come in Gold Mount and V-Mount options.
MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-9 for the Blackmagic PYXIS
Tailored to provide intelligent power distribution with D-Taps, 5V USB-C PD, 3pin Fischers, and 2pin LEMO compatible connectors, the MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-9 for the Blackmagic PYXIS will feature a removable REMOTE USB-C cable, which can enable remote start and stop capabilities using 3pin Fischer devices.
Users can hot-swap between an onboard battery and a 4-pin XLR DC INPUT without losing camera or accessory power. Plus, when both sources are connected, the DC INPUT will be able to take priority down to 12.5V, at which point the DB-4 will switch to an onboard battery.
The mount design should allow for a Sony BP-U35 battery to be installed in the camera to function as an emergency backup as well. If you’d like to swap the internal battery, users can swing the DB-9 up and release the battery.
SMART FUSE Design
The MID49 Power Distribution Box DB-9 for the Blackmagic PYXIS features a SMART FUSE design so that camera power can be monitored and the remaining power budget can be allocated to accessories.
As an example of this, MID49 shares that the C80 uses approximately 1.8A at 14V, so when using a 10A capable battery, the remaining 8.2A is allocated for accessory use. If an accessory configuration exceeds this 8.2A limit, accessory power will be cut off, which should leave the camera powered.
There’s also a "SMART FUSE" LED light that will illuminate, showing the error, and once the configuration has been adjusted to lower than 8.2A, the RESET button can be pressed, and power will be re-enabled to accessory outputs.
