Canon Debuts Its Insane 410MP Full-Frame Camera Sensor For the First Time
Showcased at the Shanghai Photo and Imaging Expo 2025, Canon has unveiled an impressive new 410MP Full-Frame camera Sensor. Here’s what we know about this new image sensor so far.

Canon LI8030SA Image Sensor
If you were one of the thousands of photo and video nerds visiting the Shanghai International Photographic Equipment and Digital Imaging Exhibition this year and happened to stop by the Canon booth, you might have noticed a small camera sensor housed in a glass display cabinet.
Debuted for the first time, Canon allowed the public to gaze upon its new LI8030SA image sensor. But what is this mysterious new sensor that Canon reports to be a 410MP full-frame camera sensor, and what might it actually be capable of?
Let’s explore everything you need to know about the new Canon LI8030SA image sensor.
The Canon LI8030SA Image Sensor
So, let’s start with some of the most impressive stats. The LI8030SA image sensor is a full-frame 35mm sensor that features 410 million effective pixels, making it capable of capturing 198 times the amount of detail typically found in Full HD (also known as 1080p) and nearly fifty times that of what you’d find with 4K.
For video in particular, this Canon LI8030SA Image Sensor will be capable of recording 24fps footage with 100MP resolution. (Or, for those looking to do the math, it will be capable of 8fps at the full 410MP resolution.)
This, of course, blows pretty much every other camera sensor ever created for commercial purposes out of the water. It’s far beyond anything Canon has created before, and doesn’t really have any rivals from any other legacy camera brands either.

Who Is This For?
The real question here is who, or what, Canon is developing this for. As many online have speculated, this likely isn’t a sensor being developed for some upcoming Canon mirrorless camera. It’s likely going to be used for some speciality purpose that will probably be more enterprise-side than commercial-side if this sensor ever does make it into anything resembling a traditional digital camera.
With that being said, it’s a nice glimpse into what Canon’s R&D department is up to, and just how far we still have to go with camera sensor technology, which will undoubtedly continue to keep developing larger and more sophisticated sensors over the coming years.
