'Dune: Part 2' Pushed to 2024 Due to Studio's Inability to End Strikes
The entire fall movie season feels like it is being squandered.
Denis Villeneuve's Dune sequel has been pushed to Mar. 15, 2024. This marks the first major title to shift because of Hollywood's ongoing actor and writer strike.
This shift caused a ripple effect where Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will be pushed back from Mar. 14 to Apr. 12, 2024, so as not to interfere with its box office. It is also a Warner Brothers project.
This did not have to happen. We should have actors and writers out there promoting these films and not studios pushing them.
However, the AMPTP waited until August to meet with the writers and has not returned to the table to make a deal with SAG-AFTRA.
These delays are on them, and it feels like they're squandering an entire movie season due to it.
After the unprecedented success ofBarbieand Oppenheimer, the box office got one less draw this year.
This is the first big title to move, but others are surely waiting in the wings.
