Insta360 has launched its second-generation GO camera in GO 2, a compact action-cam that filmmakers can mount just about anywhere to record some interesting shots. The versatile camera has a brand-new sensor and features including HDR video, 120fps, and an FPV mode.

Video & Photos

The GO 2 features a 1/2.3" image sensor that can record 2560x1440 (WQHD) resolution at 30/50fps when in basic stabilization mode. Like the original, the FlowState Stabilization recording mode takes full advantage of the 6-axis stabilizer, but the new version offers a maximum resolution of 2560x1440 at 30/50fps. If HD is only a concern, 1920x1080 is available at the same frame rates.

GO 2 also includes the popular timelapse and hyperlapse (6x) recording options, but now in WQHD at 30fps instead of the 1:1 aspect ratios found on the original. Slow-motion (4x) also gets a bump from 1600x900 at 100fps to full HD 1920x1080 at 120fps.

New to GO 2 is HDR video, which tops out at 2560x1440 at 24/25fps.

Video is recorded in MP4 at an 80Mbps bit-rate to internal memory. Insta360 says there are roughly 28GB of usable storage, so you'll get about 15 minutes of record time in basic stabilization mode.

The ISO range is 100-3200 and can be set to auto or manual. Similarly, white balance can be set to auto or preset to 2700K, 4000K, 5000K, 6500K, and 7500K. Audio is recorded as mono, and there's an option to reduce the wind noise.

The lens is 11.24mm (35mm equivalent) and has four fields of view to choose from, including a 120° Ultra Wide field of view and a 110° Action View with a maximum aperture of F2.2. It touts a scratch-proof design, and you can remove it completely for replacement or add an ND filter on sunny days.

Photos also see a slight change in resolution with 16:9 at 1920x1088, 1:1 at 2000x2000, and 9:16 at 1088x1920.

Design

GO 2 carries over the waterproof design (IPX8) where it can be submerged up to 13ft (4m) of water. It has a built-in magnet that pairs with the Magnet Pendant to easily attach it to a shirt. With the Easy Clip, you can mount it to a hat or headband for POV shots.

Weighing less than an ounce, it can be taped or strapped anywhere.

Charging Case

The included charging case can charge GO 2 in 30 minutes, and with the case attached, GO 2 can run for 150 minutes before needing a recharge. The charger also doubles as a remote, tripod, and handheld grip for shooting selfies. On top of that, there's a 1/4-20" mounting point on the case. Control of the GO 2 is done through a Bluetooth connection and can be done up 33ft (10m) away.

The Insta360 GO 2 companion app allows you to preview shots over WiFi and make adjustments as you go. You can also edit your clips directly in the app or download them to your phone.

GO 2 is also compatible with desktop software Insta360 STUDIO and Flash Cut 2.0, an Artificial Intelligent (A.I.) editing app that can auto-edit your clips into a story, highlighting different moments using music.

Price

GO 2 comes standard with an included Charge Case, Magnet Pendant, Easy Clip, Pivot Stand, and Lens Guard for $299.

You can also customize the GO 2 with a fresh skin, including a Minions design from the Despicable Me franchise.
