Fresh on the release of OffShoot Reports, Hedge is back with another update for OffShoot, the industry’s “de facto standard” for creating copies, backups, and archives of media, according to the company.

This update is most notable for those who currently own and work with OWC media cards, as this collection of quality-of-life improvements will include the ability for OffShoot to keep your cards' firmware up to date.

Let’s take a quick look at Offshoot 26.2 and what this update has to offer, with some big, some small, but all mostly relevant to filmmakers and video professionals' workflow updates.

Developed to be a top option for film and video pros looking to securely transfer video, audio, stills, and all other important media assets to any type of storage, OffShoot is an app developed by Hedge that has become a top option for those looking to create copies, backups, and archives of media for their projects.

This latest update, which follows the release of OffShoot Reports—which helps tremendously by providing a paper trail of Transfer Logs for your media pipelines —isn’t as significant, but it does offer plenty of quality-of-life improvements.

The biggest news here is that there are improvements to firmware accessibility, in particular for OWC media cards, which the companies worked on together before to help media professionals keep their cards fast and healthy.

This update takes things a step further as OffShoot can now check whether a firmware update is available for your connected OWC media and even tell you before you start your offload. Users will be able to review notifications directly in the app and, ideally, start their days by loading their cards so they can know all their gear is updated, loaded, and ready to go.

The update also offers better manifests with updates including:

  • Hidden files are now logged in MHL and ASC MHL
  • Added files are detected
  • Renamed and moved files are detected
  • MD5 is now supported
  • Modified ASC MHL manifests are detected during verification
  • Missing ASC MHL files are detected
  • Nested histories are now supported
  • MHL files on Mac now use lowercase node names, matching the spec
  • The MHL file path is now included in the FileCopyCompleted event
