Curious About the Nexus G1? Here’s Your Official First Look at Its Cinematic Capabilities
Built around the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, the Nexus G1 is finally being put to the test. Here are the intriguing, cinematic results.

Nexus G1
Announced back in the early days of 2024, the Nexus G1 has always seemed to be an outlandishly ambitious project. It’s also quite intriguing and could usher in a new wave of camera redesign options. The real test for this new camera will be how it performs. And that’s what we’re finally getting a chance to review.
Designed around the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, the Nexus G1 makes use of the Blackmagic imaging system, but houses everything in a box-style form factor that is much more modular and conducive to higher-end cinematic use.
How does it look, though? Well, let’s find out…
The Nexus G1 Test Footage
In a new video put out by Thomas Boland, we get our first look at how the Nexus G1 performs. With a prototype finally operational and shooting, Boland was able to take the cinema camera out and give it a true test.
Almost all of the footage in the test was shot handheld, a nice preview of how the camera can perform in more rough-and-tumble settings out in a hot and humid Australian rainforest. Boland shares that they will provide some more standard in-studio tests in the future, but for now, this is a nice preview.
What stands out right away is how well the camera handles this run-and-gun style. The test footage features a mix of vintage lenses, over-the-counter cine prime lenses, and Sigma photo lenses. You can also see what the Blackmagic 6K Super 35 RAW imaging system is capable of with its 13.4 stops of dynamic range.
Price and Availability
It sounds like plans are still on for the first versions of the Nexus G1 to start shipping beginning in 2026, a slight pushback from the original late-2025 goal. The price also appears to be set to be in the $3,000 price range.
