Stephen Sondheim's passing had a profound effect on the entire world, especially Hollywood. I think there was always a healthy crossover between theater and movie kids, which ran deep with every musical adaptation or any movie that had a song.

Also, even though Sondheim only wrote one movie script in his long life, he was constantly watching movies. And apparently sending letters to the people whose movies he loved.

Last week, the show Book of Mormon tweeted out this photo that inspired Trey Parker and Matt Stone to work on the musical.

In the letter, Sondheim declares Team America: World Police the best movie of the year and he encourages Trey Parker to ignore any critics. He even says he voted for the movie in the "Best Picture" category.

While they never collaborated, South Park did do a tribute to Sondheim in one episode with a theater throwdown. The “Broadway Bro Down” episode aired in season 15 and is a must-see for Sondheim fans.
