Worlds Collide: The X-Men Are Joining The Avengers
Every comic fan has been dreaming of this forever.

'Avengers: Doomsday'
I have been a comic fan and a comic collector my entire life, and the media is finally catching up. Well, that's not true; it caught up in the mid-2000s when the first Iron Man came out, and took us to the Avengers, who really made comics part of the cultural mainstream.
And maybe it was even before that, in the early 2000s, when the X-Men movie hit.
Well, now, every comic book fan's fantasy is happening in real time because Marvel is bringing the X-Men and Avengers together in the new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.
Let's dive in.
X-Men and Avengers Unite
The crossover event we have been dying to see is finally here, with the original cast of the X-Men back for this massive timeline shift as they enter the same world of the Avengers to fight Doomsday.
In the trailer, we saw the original 20th Century Fox universe meet the established MCU heroes.
But how is all this logic playing out on the big screen?
1. The "Multiverse Collision" Strategy
Marvel is using the Multiverse Saga as the primary vehicle to bring the teams together. Rather than retconning mutants into the history of Earth-616 (the main MCU world), they are bringing over the "original" X-Men.
Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Cyclops (James Marsden) will play central roles in the fight against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.
And there will be more mutants involved, too.
2. Key Mutants Already Confirmed
While early MCU entries like Ms. Marvel and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduced the concept of mutations, Avengers: Doomsday is the first film to feature a full-scale mutant team crossover.
And we're going to see some classics come back to the big screen.
- The Original Trio: Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops.
- Returning Favorites: Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).
- Newer Additions: Channing Tatum’s Gambit (following his breakout role in Deadpool & Wolverine) is also set to join the fray.
- And...: No word yet on Wolverine, but it is a strong possibility. Same with the crossover of Quicksilver, who already exists in one world and died...but is alive in another, inside the X-Men.
3. The Role of the Baxter Building
Kevin Feige recently teased that the Baxter Building (from the upcoming Fantastic Four movie) will serve as a hub for these teams.
He noted that while the building starts with just the Fantastic Four, it eventually gets "a heck of a lot more people in it," suggesting it may serve as the shared headquarters for the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four as they plan their defense against Doom.
Summing It All Up
The events of Doomsday are expected to lead directly into Avengers: Secret Wars (scheduled for 2027). But Doomsday is scheduled to come out on December 18th, 2026, and is one of our most anticipated movies of 2026.
The rumors are that this will be a bit of a "soft reboot" for the franchise, potentially merging these separate universes into a single timeline in which the X-Men and Avengers have always co-existed.
And we can expect more X-Men movies after that, too.
