Adobe Announces Acquisition of Topaz Labs, an AI Video and Image Enhancement Company
Adobe has announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Topaz Labs to strengthen its AI tools and products.

More AI is on the way, y’all. Not that more AI isn't going to be on the way, whether anyone likes it or not, but specifically for Adobe, the company has announced an agreement to acquire Topaz Labs, an AI company specializing in industry-leading video and image enhancement models.
Adobe has not been shy about moving into AI over the past few years, so this is no surprise. But Topaz Labs does have some intriguing specialties and expertise in the space that could further provide enhancement tools for both AI and non-AI filmmakers and video pros.
Here’s what you need to know.
Adobe Acquires Topaz Labs
Announced as “a definitive agreement to acquire” Topaz Labs, the goal here clearly seems to be to bolster Adobe’s AI tools and technologies by expanding its video and image model offerings with state-of-the-art AI enhancement models in Adobe Firefly, Firefly Services, and further throughout the Creative Cloud apps.
“Adobe Firefly, Firefly Services and Creative Cloud offer the industry’s best creative tooling and top AI models for creators and brands, and we’re excited to build on the strong demand for these products with Topaz Labs. Creators are creating more content by mixing captured and generated images and video, and with Topaz Labs we will give every creator the quality and control to easily produce that content at higher quality and resolution.” - David Wadhwani, President, Creativity & Productivity Business, Adobe.
To those who might be familiar with Topaz Labs, the company has built a name for itself by providing a broad array of advanced AI models for image and video enhancements that can analyze and improve existing visual content by sharpening detail, removing noise, and restoring footage.
More AI is on the Way
The goal here appears to be simply to keep doubling down on AI platforms, tools, models, and workflows as Adobe seeks to stay ahead of the competition in the AI space. Along with recent agentic updates to Adobe Firefly, Adobe is hitting the ground running to track this emerging industry.
But, for their part, both companies are promising to keep the focus on filmmakers and creators as tools, rather than replacements.
“Building technology to make images and videos look their absolute best has been our life’s work for more than twenty years. We’ve always believed that technology should serve human creativity rather than replace it — and so has Adobe. Together, we believe we can dramatically expand what’s possible for filmmakers and creators everywhere.” - Eric Yang, CEO of Topaz Labs.
Always nice to hear, but even better to see, as companies like Adobe and others will really have to prove their commitments over the coming months and years.
