Read and Download The 'Band of Brothers' TV Show Bible
This is an invaluable look at what goes into making a TV show.

'Band of Brothers'
For me, HBO’s Band of Brothers is the greatest TV miniseries of all time. It was executive-produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg and took on Easy Company's march from D-Day until the end of WWII.
We follow them through Europe as they attempt to free it from Nazi control.
The show was sprawling and redefined what we thought the scope and scale of TV should achieve. But how do you pitch, organize, and execute a sprawling, multi-part historical epic with dozens of recurring characters and themes?
Well, you build a masterclass of a show bible.
Let's dive in.

What Makes a Show Bible Work?
Look, I am not an expert in this, but I have worked in TV and written a few bibles, so I tend to try to borrow from what I've seen way more successful people do.
A great television bible communicates the soul of the series and proves to executives that the project has legs that can extend for multiple episodes.
The one for Band of Brothers basically assures HBO that these guys know what they're doing and there will be characters and an arc to follow over the whole course of the story.

Key Lessons from the Band of Brothers Bible
When you read the bible, there are a few key lessons I think you take away immediately. The first is that we understand the scope of the TV series from the get-go.
The document perfectly outlines how an anthology-style structure tracks Easy Company from training at Camp Toccoa all the way to the Eagle's Nest. We see the episode breakdowns and understand not just how those beats mark each episode, but how each character evolves over the course of the series.
We're treated to character breakdowns, not just by bio, but by their thematic weight and relationship to the central unit and its mission.
Notice how each episode is given a distinct thematic identity.
That allows execs to understand the tone of the series as well. We can dig into what matters and start to feel like we're watching the show and episodes in our minds.
Summing It All Up
Take a look through the pages, study how they organized the history, and apply that same rigorous structure to your next pilot project.
