The Sony NP is great for just about everything. While it's not often used to power cameras any longer, it's used to power lights, accessories, and even your cellphone. When SmallHD came out with their innovative FOCUS Bolt monitors last year, it was no surprise that the Sony NP was its battery of choice. Of course, a combination monitor and wireless receiver is going to consume a lot of power, which is OK since most of us own too many NP batteries to count. But to get those long runtimes you want to use a 7800 milliamp-hour battery, and those tend to stick out quite a bit.

Looking at the back of the FOCUS Bolt, you can see how nice and wide the unit is, and then the battery sticks straight out the back. Since many will wear this on their neck, that battery is going to stick out, catch on doorways, get clipped by the dolly, and generally just not feel as "slick" and integrated as we want.

Core SWX, who also make a wonderful P-tap capable camcorder battery, have a solution. A flat 7800mah battery. Designed specifically for the FOCUS Bolt line of monitors, the NPF-SHD (NPF for the Sony NPF and SHD for SmallHD), creates a better overall experience for FOCUS BOLT owners by making a flatter overall profile while providing the overall power needed for production.

Designed to not block the cooling vents, the unit allows for full and easy rotation of a mounted FOCUS Bolt without hitting other accessories. It also features a press button indicator of battery charge, which is always appreciated when going over batteries in a bag to see which one to plug in.
