Unless you’re watching a comedy, a kid in a movie can mean only two things: they’re the emotional anchor of the narrative, or they're about to unleash unprecedented horror.

In this article, we’re dealing with the latter.

Here’s a list of the creepiest kids in movies who embody the loss of innocence in your worst nightmares.

11 Creepiest Kids Who Haunt the Silver Screen

1. The Grady Twins, The Shining

As someone who loves symmetry, anytime I think of the Grady twins, I’m left both nauseated and questioning my love for this particular geometrical design.

For me, it was always the symmetry between the twin girls—same blue dress and brown hair, sharing a single cold stare and talking to you in unison, “Come, play with us!”

Undoubtedly, the Grady twins are a disturbing creation by Stanley Kubrick!

2. Damien Thorn, The Omen

He’s got a face as cute as a button, but then this kid goes out hunting everyone around him! Damien grins at the sight of death and suffering, and goes for the kill anytime his secret or purpose is threatened.

Damien is proof that evil comes in all shapes and forms—it’s best not to judge a book by its cover. Otherwise, you might just end up with Satan, because apparently, he doesn’t always wear his horns.

3. Isaac, Children of the Corn

Just 9 years old, Isaac is the head of the children’s cult that believes that adults must die. This cult, comprising kids from ages between 9 and 12, has obliterated an entire town, sacrificing everyone about 18 years old to their demonic master by the time we meet them in the Children of the Corn.

The imagery of kids with a predatory look on their faces, especially Isaac, with his cold eyes and pale face, wearing that black gentleman’s hat, stays with you like the unease of a nightmare that you can’t quite remember after waking up.

4. Toshio, Ju-On: The Grudge

If Toshio’s powder-white face and pitch-black eyes don’t scare you, I’m not quite sure what will. Also, you have my respect.

Toshio was brutally murdered by his father, along with his mother. Now, the mother and son duo haunt their place of death and kill anyone who moves into their house.

Toshio is barely 7 years old, and most of the time, you see him sitting on his haunches, staring at you with a dead expression. A frail boy, bare-bodied, with white chapped lips and hair that covers his forehead. Sometimes, he’s peeping down the staircase, clinging to the railing. Other times, he’s tapping on his knees rhythmically with his tiny fingers as he stares into your soul.

5. The Boy, Vivarium

Gemma and her boyfriend, Tom, are looking to buy a small house for themselves, completely unaware that they’re about to get a weird kid, a lifetime of imprisonment inside a labyrinth, and ultimately death as a part of their deal.

Beyond his appearance, the Boy is anything but human. He mimics the people around him, grows up unnaturally fast, shows no emotions, and watches bizarre fractal patterns on the television. It’s his monotonous speech that gets to me the most.

6. Charlie, Hereditary

Charlie and Regan MacNeil are the quintessential corrupted children, but let’s talk about Charlie first.

Charlie appears to be yet another troubled kid, until she snips off a bird’s head with a pair of scissors.

It is not until it is too late that the family realizes that she is possessed by a malicious spirit, rooted in the family’s ancestry.

Although she dies a brutal death early on in Hereditary, even in her limited screen time, Charlie manages to give you enough creeps that she lives rent-free in your head long after the credits roll.

7. Regan MacNeil, The Exorcist

One of the greatest horror icons of a corrupt child is Regan MacNeil. Barely a teenager, she is the ultimate embodiment of a sweet child until she is possessed by the evil spirit, Pazuzu.

The effects of serving as a host to a demonic spirit on Regan will break your heart. Face brutally scratched up, eyes so dilated that you don’t see a pupil, and hair disheveled as she writhes in pain, being tormented by Pazuzu.

Her cries for help will render you sleepless for at least a couple of nights.

8. The Children, Village of the Damned

The identical-looking children in the Village of the Damned will leave you extremely uneasy with their robotic demeanor and voice that’s polite and yet commanding. They’re not human, possibly aliens, with psychic abilities, fierce intellect, and eyes that glow in different colors when they’re unleashing terror with their mind-control abilities.

Undeniably, these kids are up to no good!

9. Esther, Orphan

A child only in appearance, Esther is actually a 33-year-old woman suffering from a rare condition that causes dwarfism and hides visible signs of aging.

What makes her a true force of menace is that she is evil by nature, unlike most other creepy children in movies.

10. Abigail, Abigail

A group of kidnappers thinks that they are in for a treat when they kidnap the ballerina daughter of a powerful underworld figure; if only they knew that Abigail was no ordinary child.

Don’t be fooled by her child-like spirit, like the kidnappers. Behind that innocent face and cute smile hides a powerful vampire who’s over a century old, ready to make a kill. She hunts like it's a game. After all, like every kid, she likes to play with her food.

11. Lilith, Case 39

Both Case 39 and Orphan taught us to be very careful about who we welcome into our home, even if it's an act of kindness.

Lilith’s deceptive appearance makes her a real threat. She might look like a little girl straight out of an English novel, but in reality, she is an evil spirit who feeds on emotions.

Naturally, Emily, the social worker, misunderstands her parents as being abusive when they try to kill her to save themselves. Soon, an act of kindness erupts into a series of deaths, only to become a hanging noose above Emily’s head.
