Leica Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH
It’s an exciting day for niche photography lens fans, as well as creative filmmakers looking for unique shots to compose for their projects as well. Leica has announced the company’s newest M lens with the Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH, the fastest 35mm lens that Leica has ever produced for its M-System.
Set to offer a nice blend of high speed and selective focus control, the Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH will feature a maximum aperture of f/1.2 and will bring a smattering of close-focusing capabilities and other unique looks.
Here’s what you need to know about this smaller and wider Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH.
The Leica Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH
As the latest edition of Leica’s popular Noctilux series, the Noctilux-M 35mm f/1.2 ASPH aims to be further distinguished by its bright f/1.2 maximum aperture, which should make it ideal for low-light uses for photo or video shoots. It will allow for some nice, selective-focus portraits where shooters can benefit from a unique shallow depth of field look.
This Noctilux-M 35mm should also shine with how it will be able to portray subjects with a rich, cinematic atmosphere surrounded by the soft, circular bokeh that you’d expect from a Leica lens of this quality.
The Noctilux-M 35mm will further join the likes of Leica’s 50mm f/0.95 and 75mm f/1.25 to complete the Noctilux trio, which could be a nice option for hybrid content creators looking for a sophisticated but consistent lens set for their stylized projects.

Versatile and Precise
Overall, Leica shares that as the first Noctilux lens with a 35mm focal length, the lens should offer a wider field of view compared to the existing 50mm and 75mm Noctiluxes, which should be ideal for a natural perspective that includes more background information and context than the narrower focal lengths.
It is also set to be the first Noctilux lens to feature extended close-range focusing down to 1.6' (50 cm), which, compared to the conventional 2.3' (70 cm) of most rangefinder lenses, should help with close-up subjects at a maximum magnification of 1:11.6.
The lens has also been optimized for high-resolution M cameras, where it will be able to provide the sharpness and resolution for the latest image sensors while still retaining the character and handcrafted quality associated with Leica optics.
