We learned today that just one week into production, Justin Lin has left the newest Fast and Furious movie.

Lin was credited as the director who turned the franchise around. Now, he's leaving it behind. No word yet on why. We hope it's not a health thing or anything serious. Rumors have circled for a long time that the Fast sets are hard to deal with. Remember all the drama about fight scenes? Big egos, lots of notes, and little control. It will be interesting to see what Lin says, or if more details come out.

Lin said in a statement Tuesday, “With the support of Universal, I have made the difficult decision to step back as director of Fast X, while remaining with the project as a producer. Over 10 years and five films, we have been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best damn car chases. On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I am proud of helping to build the most diverse franchise in movie history. I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew, and studio for their support, and for welcoming me into the Fast family.”

We'll keep you updated as more develops.
