There I was, minding my own business, trying to watch football, and right in front of me drops another trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

Just when you thought the upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey couldn't get more ambitious, the director has thrown a "La Flame" sized curveball at the audience: Travis Scott.

Let's dive in.

A Voice for the Ages

Okay, I was all in when I heard Travis Scott's voice singing the praises of Odysseus. It was like everything I had ever in English class and better than I could have even imagined.

So how did this partnership come to be?

Scott famously collaborated with Nolan on the Tenet soundtrack with the track "The Plan," but this marks his significant leap onto the silver screen under Nolan’s meticulous direction.

In the teaser, he appears in a scene alongside Tom Holland’s Telemachus and Jon Bernthal’s Menelaus. He's clad in period-defying but striking attire and wielding a staff, and delivers a haunting line that sets the stage for the fall of Troy: “A war, a man, a trick — a trick to break the walls of Troy. It’s burning, screaming to the ground.”

Travis Scott's gravelly delivery adds a modern intensity to Homer’s ancient verses, and it got me so very excited to see how Nolan handles direct translations of the text in the movie.

It's hard to tell just how big a role Scott landed, but it left me excited to see more. Get this man an audiobook!

The Ultimate Ensemble

Travis Scott joins what is shaping up to be the most "Nolan-esque" cast in history. Led by Matt Damon as the wandering hero Odysseus, the film features:

  • Zendaya as the goddess Athena
  • Anne Hathaway as Penelope
  • Tom Holland as Telemachus
  • Robert Pattinson as Antinous
  • Charlize Theron as Circe

The addition of the Utopia rapper has already ignited social media. And I bet we have a few more actors to find out about as we go deeper.

Summing It All Up

Nolan has a history of unconventional casting that pays off, think Harry Styles in Dunkirk or David Bowie in The Prestige. And by bringing Scott into the fold, Nolan continues to bridge the gap between high-concept cinema and contemporary pop culture.

And make people like me very happy

The Odyssey hits theaters and IMAX on July 17, 2026.
