At this point, it’s hard to find any story in the film and video world that isn’t something coming out because of ties to AI. Like the news of GoPro being bought, or merging technically, with a company so it can be repositioned into AI, the memory card world has been rocked by AI for quite some time now.

Prices have gone up, shortages have hit markets, and when new products are released, they’re certainly feeling these effects. Still, it’s nice to see some new cards hit the scene as CODEX has released a full range of CFexpress Type A and Type B cards, plus a media reader.

If you’re looking for card options for high-end filmmaking and videography, these might be worth checking out. Here’s what you need to know.

CODEX New CFexpress Cards

CODEX, a company with a strong reputation for providing cards and storage for major Hollywood projects and high-end video needs for years, is back with a new lineup of high-end CFexpress cards, including two new lines.

A new CFexpress 4.0 Type B Excel lineup supports VPG400, and a CFexpress 4.0 Type B Elite range supports VPG1600 with added endurance. There’s also a new CFexpress Type B Reader to check out.

Now, this is exciting news, and the specs look great for all models, with very high top read and write speeds; yet the bad news is—as you might expect—price points that continue the same upward trends seen across the industry.

The Type B cards will be able to hit 3750MB/s maximum read and 3500MB/s maximum write speeds, and the Type A cards will be able to go up to 1800MB/s speeds for both reading and writing. The card reader can transfer up to 5000MB/s too.
