Are you ready for another Robert Eggers movie? We are! The Northman just received a release date of April  8, 2022. The hype surrounding this film has been non-stop, even though details have been kept under wraps.

We know that the cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Alexander SkarsgårdEthan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Björk, and Willem Dafoe. An all-star team, to say the least. The film's synopsis is described as “an epic revenge thriller that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father.”

We've already seen how much research and detail Eggers puts into his historical accuracy, so the idea of him diving into this Viking era is extremely exciting.

The cinematographer of this film, Jarin Blaschke, spoke to Filmmaker Magazine about the pre-production process and the tools they're utilizing.

"Usually we storyboard perhaps 10% of the movie, but this one is so complex. We will pretty much have a graphic novel of the film ready by the time we shoot... We’ve had 21 weeks of prep so far but we’re still funneling shots through the storyboard artist. He’s probably the busiest crew member right now, he’s a lot busier than me."

Do you use storyboards? It's something that can easily be overlooked, but they're important because you can map out the shots and camera movements as visual references. Especially with a project as big as this!

The Northman is looking to be Eggers's largest-scale film yet, as his predecessors were much smaller contained films.

We can't wait to see what else this auteur writer/director has in store for us.
