Well, that was a bit of a delay. Originally introduced in March last year and slated to be available at the end of the summer, Sony has announced that the VENICE 2 Extension System Mini is finally ready to actually begin shipping here at the beginning of 2026.
Designed to be an in-demand accessory dedicated to Sony’s award-winning VENICE 2 digital cinema camera, the Extension System allows users to be able to separate the sensor block from the camera body and is about 70% smaller than the previous extension system.

The Sony VENICE 2 Extension System Mini
As we covered when it was first announced, the VENICE 2 Extension System Mini offers a 70% smaller form factor than previous models. With its ability to separate the sensor block and lens from the body of VENICE 2 cameras, the system is ideal for those looking to shoot handheld, gimbal, jib, or car rigs with a smaller, more usable system.
The mini extension system also features a 14.8' detachable cable for transmitting video and metadata, which should further let shooters easily position it in their setups and connect it directly to their camera body. An optional 39.3' cable will be available to purchase separately.
The VENICE 2 Extension System Mini will also include a drop-in ND filter system with a set of nin-filters included, which will feature 0.3, 0.6, 0.9, 1.2,1.5, 1.8, 2.1, and 2.4 gradations with additional filters available separately as well.
