The Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical Lens is the latest in the company’s series of optically refined, apochromatic lenses, which should help shooters get some of the best color capture possible with their cameras.
Designed for Leica M-mount camera systems (but with other options set to come), this could be a nice investment for a high-end photographer or videographer looking for elite capture specifications. Here’s what you need to know about this new wide-angle prime lens from Voigtlander.
The Voigtlander APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical Lens
Designed to be a top-level wide-angle prime lens option for M-mount camera systems, the APO-LANTHAR 28mm f/2 Aspherical Lens from Voigtlander holds the distinction of being part of the APO-LANTHAR series of highly reviewed, optically refined, apochromatic lenses.
The apochromatic design makes the on-axis chromatic aberration of RGB light wavelengths constituting the three primary colors of light as close to zero as possible. Furthermore, a series of anomalous partial dispersion and aspherical elements should also help to suppress virtually all aberrations for especially high sharpness and color accuracy.
Voigtlander reports that a manual focus design is employed with the lens, which—along with a high-precision helicoid—should offer refined focusing control. Additionally, a 12-blade diaphragm forms a circular opening when using the wider apertures, which should also help to create a pleasing circular bokeh from point light sources.
