Canon to Show Off New 4K Broadcast Zooms at NAB 2019
Let’s meet Canon’s new portable 4K broadcast zoom lenses.
Along with a couple new lines of 4K camcorders announced earlier today with the Canon VIXIA G-Series and their Pro XA camcorders, Canon is also reportedly set to show off two new portable 4K broadcast zoom lenses with their CJ18ex28B and the CJ15ex8.5B.
According to Canon U.S.A. President and COO Kazuto Ogawa:
“The demand for affordable, high-quality 4K UHD lenses for television news has continued to grow year over year, and as the needs of our customers mature, Canon continues to evolve to meet the needs of end-users. These new UHDgc lenses provide the optical brilliance that makes Canon a leader in broadcast lenses, while maintaining a price point that fits the budgetary needs of a large segment of the industry.”
Both of these new lenses are “world’s first” for 4K UHD broadcast with 2/3-inch sensors. Ideal for run-and-gun broadcast and documentary filmmaking, both lenses are set to offer some crazy coverage capabilities with some impressive zoom ratios and lightweight, handheld-friendly design.
CJ18ex28B 4K Broadcast Zoom Lens
The first 4K broadcast zoom featured is the CJ18ex28B which is built for some extreme wildlife and live event coverage with a 18x zoom ratio and range from 28mm to 500mm (with a 2/3-inch sensor, mind you).No word yet on price or availability.
CJ15ex8.5B 4K Broadcast Zoom Lens
The other Canon broadcast zoom will be the CJ15ex8.5B will be the more stable, practical option for closer coverage opportunities. The lens will range from 8.5mm to 128mm with a 15x zoom ratio.No word yet on price or availability, but will have more details after NAB 2019.
