Apple’s WWDC 2025 Showcases Liquid Glass and Updated Operating Systems
A look at some of the highlights of WWDC 2025 and what film and video pros can look forward to the most.

Another year, another Apple WWDC. Following up on previous worldwide developers conferences of years past, Apple spent a long time going over all of the new announcements and features set to come to Apple products in the coming year.
While we didn’t get any big news about the iPhone 17 or other direct filmmaking tools or features, we did get some insights into what Apple is working on and are excited to share with the world. Let’s look at the new iOS 26 and other updated operating systems for iPads and VisionPros, as well as see which of these announcements might be the most noteworthy for film and video pros.
Apple WWDC 2025
If you were someone tuning into Apple’s WWDC this year to hear about the video specs for the new iPhone 17 model, you might have been a bit disappointed. But, historically, Apple doesn’t usually reveal huge details about iPhones at WWDC events, so this was expected.
Apple Liquid Glass
Most of the news this year mostly had to do with new OS features that aim to make Apple apps and system experiences more expressive and delightful while still being reliable and familiar.
“This is our broadest software design update ever. Meticulously crafted by rethinking the fundamental elements that make up our software, the new design features an entirely new material called Liquid Glass. It combines the optical qualities of glass with a fluidity only Apple can achieve, as it transforms depending on your content or context. It lays the foundation for new experiences in the future and, ultimately, it makes even the simplest of interactions more fun and magical.” — Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of Human Interface Design.
The biggest news to most is going to be the introduction to Liquid Glass—a translucent material that reflects and refracts its surroundings, while dynamically transforming to help bring greater focus to content as a way to deliver a new level of vitality across controls, navigation, app icons, widgets, and more.
More Updates From WWDC 2025
Apple also unveiled a new design that aims to expand across all of its platforms — iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26 — as a way to establish even more harmony while maintaining the distinct qualities that make each unique.
Apple Intelligence is also getting a boost with deeper integration in more apps and more ability to help users communicate across languages, explore their surroundings, and stay organized even more effortlessly.
Spatial scenes for visionOS saw some updates as well as users can now use spatial scenes to transform images and viewing experiences, giving them lifelike depth. You can view them in Photos, Safari, and Spatial Gallery — and third-party developers can incorporate them, too.
