While on one end of the video production pipeline, we’re getting reports of rumored new mirrorless cameras capable of up to 10K video recording, we’re also seeing breakthroughs in post-production and more automated video logging tools hitting the scene.

Announced by EdMon, a company that offers tools for story producers and video editors, another logging function has been introduced to make video material easier to navigate, structure, and work with in post-production.

Let’s take a look.

So, this new automated video logging tool is called “Action & Events,” and it aims to let users note what happens in a video and connect those moments to the correct time codes in the edits. The goal of this technology is to give teams a clearer overview of their material and a more structured way to work through their footage.

Similar to other auto-logging technologies (which we’ve covered in the past), what sets this Action & Events option apart is its next stage of development, which aims to combine transcript data with multimodal analysis of the footage itself.

Shared by the EdMon team, the company is building its technology toward a workflow in which events can be automatically detected and logged. This means that, eventually, rather than relying only on spoken words, the system will also be able to interpret what is happening in the frame.

The overall goal here is to enable the feature to identify material that a transcript alone would miss, including various visual actions, scene-level developments, and other moments that matter in the edit but are never explicitly spoken.

Price and Availability

At the end of the day, if you’re part of a post-production team, auto-logging tools and options like these could possibly mean less manual logging and a faster way to find the parts of the footage that are actually useful in the cut.

It might not be for everyone, though, and often these quick options do present quirks and slower workflows, at least when first implemented. Still, if this is something you’re interested in exploring, you can find more info about Action & Events, which is part of EdMon's broader effort to make raw material more searchable, more structured, and more usable across the production process.
