Leica has announced that its latest firmware update (version 4.0.0) is set to add 3:2 Open Gate recording to the SL3 and SL3-S, along with some other major improvements.

Another day, another major camera manufacturer is rolling out 3:2 Open Gate video recording capabilities for some popular mirrorless camera models.
A few days after Canon announced that the C400 was getting Open Gate, we have another major firmware update that is adding 3:2 Open Gate video recording to some top camera options for filmmakers, as Leica has shared in its announcement of its latest firmware update (version 4.0.0) for the SL3 and SL3-S cameras.
There’s actually quite a bit more to explore here for these Leica mirrorless cameras, as this firmware update is offering some major updates and improvements. Here’s what you need to know.

So, the big news here is what was shared in the headline: 3:2 open-gate recording is coming to the Leica SL3 and Leica SL3-S. These popular Leica mirrorless cameras are also getting a host of other new improvements and features, most notably including new direct C2C (camera-to-cloud) connectivity through Adobe Frame.io, as well as some new anamorphic lens support, and additional video format options.
There are, of course, some AI-powered enhancements as well as the autofocus for both cameras, which should get a boost too with expanded subject recognition powered by AI improvements as well.
