We know, it’s not a film or video camera. But darn it, the Ricoh GR line of premium compact cameras has proven to be one of the best, and most DIY-friendly, photo cameras on the market for several years. And we have hope that Ricoh might expand into video, hopefully soon.

Ricoh has now confirmed that the company is working on a next-gen version of its popular GR premium compact camera line, with a new Ricoh GR IV set to launch as soon as later this year. Let’s take a look at what we know about this new photo camera and what it could possibly offer for photographers and content creators looking for a tiny, yet powerful, walking-around camera.

Ricoh GR IV Camera Announcement

This is big news for those who love a good point-and-shoot camera with a small form factor yet powerful sensor. Ideal for travelers or those simply looking for a small and easy camera to keep in their jacket pocket as they wander around their home cities, the Ricoh GR IV sounds like it will be a nice update on an already popular and proven camera line.

Set to feature a new 26MP APS-C sensor, a revamped imaging engine, and a new fixed wide-angle lens, Ricoh has confirmed that the GR IV should be a bold step forward for the brand and further cement the company as a leader in point-and-shoot photo technology.

It also sounds like the GR III and GR IIIx models will stay available as well, and might actually get a price drop, making them nice and affordable options, possibly in the face of rising prices across the industry.

Price and Availability

We don’t have any official word on any pricing or full specs for the Ricoh GR IV just yet, but as more details emerge we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on this exciting, non-video camera in the future.
