The Sony BURANO Gets Major Update With New Recording Formats and Peaking Tools
Sony has announced that the BURANO is getting an overhaul with a new firmware update that is set to add new recording formats, added supports, and a ton of improvements overall.

Sony BURANO
This must be like Christmas morning for all of you Sony BURANO owners, as Sony has announced that the Burano is getting a major overhaul with its latest firmware update. This update (firmware version 3.00) is set to add some pretty major new recording modes and a range of improvements–all quite helpful and very welcomed additions to this popular Sony cinema camera.
Already a popular and capable option for solo-style and small crew cine shooters, the BURANO is about to get even more powerful and enticing with the addition of new imager scan modes, including full-frame 5.8K 6:5 for 2x anamorphic lenses as well as Super 35 3.8K 16:9. The update also adds new operability and workflow improvements.
Here’s all of the exciting news.
Sony BURANO Updates
As mentioned above, the big news here for most Sony BURANO owners (or those just interested in tracking the camera) is that the BURANO is set to get some notable new recording formats, including FF 5.8K 6:5 for anamorphic shooting and S35crop 3.8K 16:9 up to 120 fps. The company is also adding X-OCN recording support for the S35 1.9K 16:9 format, too.
Sony has also announced that this firmware update (version 3.00) is set to add a host of new operability and workflow improvements, including support for normal peaking and some other major improvements for working with color peaking.
The BURANO is also set to receive improvements to its Real-time Tracking AF feature, support for configuring wireless and wired LAN, USB tethering, and the addition of metadata items overlaid on SDI output when the Monitor FHD is enabled.

Sometimes, updates introduce new issues, so waiting even a little bit is never a bad idea. Still, this is a pretty major update that has likely been tested a bit more than a smaller, less major one.
